Refresh Your Body and Spirit with Air & God’s Work
Every breath I take is a reminder of my need for God and His power to refresh both my body and soul.
Today we continue with our acronym B.A.L.A.N.C.E.D. Living. In this post, we focus on the letter A, looking at both the physical and spiritual aspects. On the physical side, A = Air for Freshness, and on the spiritual side, A = Allow God to Work in Your Life.
Physical: A = Air for Freshness
Question: In what ways can fresh air help me think more clearly and draw closer to God?
Romans 12:1-2 (KJV):
"I beseech you therefore, brethren, by the mercies of God, that ye present your bodies a living sacrifice, holy, acceptable unto God, which is your reasonable service. And be not conformed to this world: but be ye transformed by the renewing of your mind, that ye may prove what is that good, and acceptable, and perfect, will of God."
God wants to transform us in many ways, and one simple but powerful way is through the breath of fresh air He has given us. The air we breathe isn’t just a physical necessity—it’s a gift from God that can renew our minds and restore our spirits.
Ways fresh air can transform our health:
Physical health: Deep breathing in clean air helps oxygenate the blood, energize the body, and support our immune system.
Mental health: Spending time in nature and breathing deeply can reduce stress, improve mood, and help us think more clearly.
Spiritual health: As we breathe deeply, we can reflect on God’s goodness and the life He sustains in us.
Acts 17:24-25 (KJV):
"God that made the world and all things therein, seeing that he is Lord of heaven and earth, dwelleth not in temples made with hands; Neither is worshipped with men's hands, as though he needed any thing, seeing he giveth to all life, and breath, and all things;"
God made everything for us. He gives us life and sustains us every moment. Often, we take these blessings for granted. By stepping outside and taking deep breaths, we can remind ourselves of His provision, His love, and our dependence on Him.
When we breathe deeply in God’s creation, it can be an act of worship—thanking Him for the life and health He provides, and preparing our hearts to serve Him more fully. Each breath can be a reminder that He is sustaining us in every moment.
Spiritual: A = Allow God to Work in Your Life
Question: What are the barriers in my life that keep me from allowing God to work?
Hebrews 12:1 (KJV):
"Wherefore seeing we also are compassed about with so great a cloud of witnesses, let us lay aside every weight, and the sin which doth so easily beset us, and let us run with patience the race that is set before us."
We all have things that weigh us down—sin, fear, pride, and unresolved struggles. I want to ask God to search my heart and show me these barriers so I can lay them aside and run the race He has set before me.
Isaiah 59:2 (KJV):
"But your iniquities have separated between you and your God, and your sins have hid his face from you, that he will not hear."
I recognize that sin separates me from God. I want Him to reveal the sins I cling to and give me the power to let them go. I cannot do this on my own—I need the Holy Spirit to work within me.
James 4:6-8 (KJV):
"But he giveth more grace. Wherefore he saith, God resisteth the proud, but giveth grace unto the humble. Submit yourselves therefore to God. Resist the devil, and he will flee from you. Draw nigh to God, and he will draw nigh to you. Cleanse your hands, ye sinners; and purify your hearts, ye double minded."
I love these verses. God gives more grace; what a blessing. As we draw nigh to God, He will draw near to us, and He will help us to resist and to flee. I want to draw closer to God each day.
Every breath I take is a reminder of my dependence on God. I cannot change myself on my own; I need Him to empower, guide, and transform me.
Prayer of Commitment
DearHeavenly Father,
I thank You for the gift of life and the breath that sustains me. I acknowledge that I cannot live fully, think clearly, or grow spiritually without Your power at work in my life. Search my heart, Lord, and show me the weights and sins that keep me from running the race You have set before me. Help me lay them aside, draw near to You, and allow Your Spirit to work within me. Every breath I take, let it be a reminder of my need for You. Transform me, refresh me, and fill me with Your love and grace.
In Jesus’ name,
Amen."
Action Steps for Today
Physical: Air for Freshness
Take at least 10 minutes today to step outside and breathe deeply, focusing on God’s creation.
Reflect on how the fresh air helps you feel clearer mentally and more energized physically.
Express gratitude to God for the gift of breath and life.
Spiritual: Allow God to Work in Your Life
Write down any burdens, sins, or fears that weigh you down.
Pray, asking God to show you where to let go and allow Him to transform your heart.
Meditate on Hebrews 12:1, Isaiah 59:2, and James 4:6-8 as reminders that God is ready to work in your life when you surrender.
Remember
Physical air refreshes your body and mind, preparing you to be more receptive to God’s Spirit.
As you breathe and focus on God’s goodness, your heart becomes more open to letting Him work in your life.
The simple act of mindful breathing can become a spiritual discipline, reminding you of your dependence on God.
Fresh air nourishes our bodies, clears our minds, and reminds us of God’s sustaining power. Allowing God to work in our lives nourishes our spirit, lightens our hearts, and transforms us into His image. By combining these physical and spiritual practices, we can live more fully in B.A.L.A.N.C.E.D. Living, walking closer with God each day, strengthened in body, mind, and soul.
