Each breath I take reminds me that God is still working. As I breathe in fresh air for my body, I choose to breathe in faith for my soul.
This message is part of the B.A.L.A.N.C.E.D. Living series, where we explore how caring for our physical, emotional, and spiritual health is deeply connected. In this section, we focus on the second letter “A,” Part 3, looking at both Air for physical freshness and Allowing God to work in our lives spiritually. Together, these reminders invite us to slow down, breathe deeply, and recognize that the same God who gives us breath also desires to guide every step of our journey.
🌿 Physical A = Air for Freshness
Question: What is the significance of God breathing life into humanity?
Genesis 2:7 (KJV)
“And the LORD God formed man of the dust of the ground, and breathed into his nostrils the breath of life; and man became a living soul.”
God Himself is the source of our breath. Every inhale is a reminder that life originates from Him. Each time we step outside and breathe in the fresh air He created, we receive the gift of life renewed. Indoor air can sustain us, but fresh outdoor air purifies and revives us. It refreshes our lungs, improves circulation, lifts our mood, and strengthens our immune system. It is a reminder that God didn’t just create us—He continues to sustain us with every breath.
Ezekiel 37:5–6 (KJV)
“Thus saith the Lord GOD unto these bones; Behold, I will cause breath to enter into you, and ye shall live:
And I will lay sinews upon you, and will bring up flesh upon you, and cover you with skin, and put breath in you, and ye shall live; and ye shall know that I am the LORD.”
These verses beautifully reiterate that it is God who gives breath and life. Every breath we take should stir gratitude within us. Fresh air brings more than physical vitality—it invites spiritual reflection. When I breathe in clean, crisp air, I want to breathe out a prayer of thanksgiving to the One who fills my lungs and my life with His sustaining power.
When we pause to breathe deeply in God’s creation, we are reminded of His presence. Just as our bodies thrive on oxygen, our spirits thrive on His Spirit. Taking time to get outside, slow down, and breathe deeply can be a form of worship—a reminder that the same God who fills the earth with life also fills our souls with purpose.
💖 Spiritual A = Allow God to Work in Your Life
Question: How can I trust God’s timing and plan?
This question can feel personal because I often struggle with it too. Trusting God’s plan can be hard when life doesn’t unfold the way we expect. But just as we naturally trust that we will breathe again—without having to think about it—I want to learn to trust God in every moment, knowing He is in control.
Ecclesiastes 3:11 (KJV)
“He hath made every thing beautiful in his time: also he hath set the world in their heart, so that no man can find out the work that God maketh from the beginning to the end.”
What a promise! God makes everything beautiful in His time—not ours. He sees our trials, tears, and waiting seasons. He knows what we need and when we need it. The process may feel slow or confusing, but just like a flower doesn’t bloom overnight, God’s timing brings beauty at just the right moment.
Proverbs 3:5–6 (KJV)
“Trust in the LORD with all thine heart; and lean not unto thine own understanding.
In all thy ways acknowledge him, and he shall direct thy paths.”
I love this promise! I claim it often because I’ve seen it proven true in my own life. Yet, it’s easy to slip back into trying to control things. Every time I surrender to God’s timing and direction, peace follows. When I force things, worry grows. Trusting Him doesn’t mean life will be easy—it means choosing peace over panic, faith over fear. God’s way is always better than mine, even when I don’t understand.
Romans 8:28 (KJV)
“And we know that all things work together for good to them that love God, to them who are the called according to his purpose.”
This verse begins with “And we know…”—not “we hope” or “we think.” We know that God is working all things together for good. Even when we can’t see it, He is weaving every detail of our lives into His greater purpose. There are still things I’m waiting on, but I rest in the truth that He knows better. Trusting His timing allows me to breathe deeply in peace rather than anxiety.
🌤️ Bringing It Together – Air and Allowing God
Physically, we need fresh air to live and thrive. Spiritually, we need to allow God to breathe His life into our circumstances. Just as we can’t live without oxygen, we can’t truly live without trusting the One who gives us breath.
When we step outside and take a deep breath, let it be a symbol of surrender—breathing in God’s presence and exhaling our worries. Every breath is both a gift and an invitation to trust.
Today, I choose to breathe deeply and trust fully—to inhale faith and exhale fear, to welcome God’s life-giving Spirit and allow Him to work in every part of my journey.
Dear Heavenly Father,
Thank You for the breath of life You have given me. Each breath is a reminder of Your love and sustaining power. Help me to pause and thank You often—for air, for life, and for Your Spirit that refreshes my soul. Teach me to trust You more deeply. Even when I can’t see what You’re doing, I want to rest in knowing You make all things beautiful in Your time. I surrender my plans and breathe in Your peace today.
In Jesus’ name,
Amen.
